On August 15 2008, The International Charter "Space and Major Disasters" was activated by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) on behalf of the Mekong River Commission (MRC) following recent heavy rains over this area. This map illustrates flood water areas (depicted in red) detected by RADARSAT-1 satellite along the affected region of the Mekong River surrounding the city of Phnom Penh.
